Privacy Policy

Effective October 22, 2026 · Choreosophy LLC, California, USA

Choreosophy is a drop-in dance class finder for adults. This policy covers the Choreosophy app (including its web version at app.choreosophy.com) and this website, including the launch waitlist. It is written from what the product actually stores — each item below corresponds to real fields in our database — and we keep it current when the product changes.

The short version: we collect what the features you use need, and nothing is sold or shared for advertising. Your phone number is never shown to anyone. Your date of birth is never shown to anyone. Browsing the map requires no account at all. You can delete your account — and everything it collected — from inside the app.

Browsing without an account

The map, studio pages, and class pages work without signing up. In that mode the only things we ask are your date of birth — checked once on your device to confirm you're an adult, and kept on your device, not sent to us — and, only if you allow it, your device location to center the map near you. Declining location keeps everything working; you can search a city instead. The app also counts which screens and features get used, under a random ID stored on your device rather than any name or account (see PostHog below).

What the app collects, and why

One rule shapes several rows below: seeing other dancers requires a confirmed phone number. Profiles, the community feed, people search, friends, badges and leaderboards stay hidden until you add a number and enter the code we text you. An email address alone is free to create, and this is what keeps the people side of Choreosophy from being browsed by accounts that cost nothing to make. Finding classes and studios never requires an account at all.

Account & profile
DataWhyWho can see it
Email addressCreating your account and signing in.Only you. Never shown to other users, never used for marketing without separate consent.
Phone numberAdded after signup, verified by a one-time text code. It secures your account, enables phone sign-in, and is required before you can see any other dancer — profiles, the community feed, people search, friends, badges and leaderboards all stay hidden until a number is confirmed. Finding classes and studios never requires one. Accounts created before email signup existed use their phone to sign in.Only you. Never shown to other users, never used for marketing.
PasswordSigning in.No one — stored only as a cryptographic hash.
Username, display name, photo, bio, dance levelYour public profile.Other users.
Date of birthAge check only — Choreosophy is 18+, and accounts cannot be created without confirming it.Only you. Stored separately from your profile; not visible to friends or anyone else.
Style preferencesFiltering classes to the styles you picked.Only you.
Onboarding answers (dance experience, reasons for dancing, weekly class goal, how you heard about us)Personalizing the app — your experience level seeds the difficulty filter, your goal powers streak reminders.Only you. Never shown on your profile.
Activity
DataWhyWho can see it
Saved studios & favorite classesYour Saved tab.Only you.
Class log (planned / taken, dates)Tracking your classes; earns badges. You, and friends after a mutual friend request. A class you check in to as "Only me" stays visible only to you.
Class log verificationWhen you log a class ("check in" at the studio), your phone's location is compared to the studio's once, to confirm you're there. We store only the resulting distance in meters — never your coordinates.Distance number: only you.
Class log questionnaire (how difficult it felt, your skill level, liked it, who the class is right for, typical age in the room, warm-up, injury-friendliness, recommended attire, tips for other dancers)Helping other dancers pick the right class. Asked right after you log a class at the studio; every answer past the first three is optional.Anyone using the app — but always anonymously: attire notes and tips appear as cards labeled only "Dancer" with an approximate date, and sliders show ranges and averages. Your username is never attached. "Liked it" still shows only in aggregate once a class has 3+ reviews. Anyone signed in can report a note, and reported notes are reviewed.
Studio questionnaire (parking type and whether it's simple or complex, what to do when you arrive, warm-up space, amenities, first-time tips)Helping the next dancer find the door. Asked once, the first time you log a class at a studio; everything is optional.Anyone using the app, anonymously — same rules as the class questionnaire.
Photos and videos you add to class and studio pagesThe community media strip at the bottom of class pages (photos or videos) and studio pages (informational videos).Anyone using the app, anonymously — the strip never shows who uploaded. Reportable like tips.
Price reportsKeeping listed prices honest.Shown only in aggregate.
BadgesMilestones (e.g. Welcome, Community Regular).Other dancers with a confirmed phone number — a badge reveals a milestone, never the class history behind it.
Social & community
DataWhyWho can see it
Friendships & friend invitesThe Friends feature. Invite links you share contain a code, not your contacts — we never read your address book.Friend lists are mutual: activity is visible only after both sides accept.
Community posts, events, challenge sign-ups, and photos/videos you attachThe Community tab.Other dancers with a confirmed phone number, within the app. When you post a training session or a class check-in you choose who sees it: only you, your friends, or everyone. Photos are stored at private, unguessable addresses that the app only shows to the people a post is visible to.
Training sessions you log (style practiced, time spent, note, photo)The "Log a session" feature on the community feed. The photo is stamped with the style and duration before posting.Whoever you choose when you post it: only you, your friends, or everyone in the community. Sharing the stamped photo to social media is always your choice, done through your device's share sheet.
Props balance and weekly class streakThe in-app rewards currency, earned through activity (logged classes, posts, referrals) and spendable in the app.Other dancers with a confirmed phone number — your Props total and streak sit on your profile, like badges. The activity history behind them stays private.
Props given and comments on postsReacting to and discussing community posts.Other users, on the post they belong to.
Teacher followsFollowing instructors.Only you and the followed teacher's counts.
People you blockHiding each other's posts, comments, events and profiles, and ending any friendship between you. Blocking works both ways.Only you, in the Blocked accounts list on your Profile. The person you block is never told.
Reports you make (what you reported, the reason you chose, and any details you add)Reviewing posts, comments, events, listings, profiles, tips and media that may break the Terms of Use. Each report is emailed to our moderation inbox. Anything reported by several different people is hidden automatically until we review it.Only Choreosophy admins. The person you report never sees who reported them.
Moderation records (which reports were acted on, and any account suspension)Keeping the community safe. Reports are reviewed within 24 hours; content that breaks the Terms is removed, and accounts that repeatedly or seriously break them can be suspended.Only Choreosophy admins.

Who else handles your data

These are processors — they handle data on our instructions to run the product, and none of them may use it for their own purposes.

ServiceWhat it doesWhat reaches it
SupabaseDatabase, sign-in, and file storage (hosted in the United States).Everything listed above.
TwilioDelivers verification text messages.Your phone number and the one-time code.
ResendDelivers studio-ownership verification emails, and alerts our moderation inbox when something is reported. For verification: the studio's publicly listed contact address and the one-time code, nothing about you beyond the studio being claimed. For report alerts: what was reported (its text, and the username of whoever posted it), the reason chosen and any details the reporter added. Never who made the report.
Apple App Store / Google PlayPayment processing for subscriptions, donations, and purchases.Your store account and payment method — handled entirely by them.
RevenueCatManages subscription status across devices. An anonymous app user ID and purchase history. No card numbers.
ExpoDelivers app updates, so fixes reach the iOS and Android apps without a new store release. Each time the app opens it asks Expo whether an update exists. That request carries your IP address, your platform (iOS or Android) and which version of the app you have. Nothing about your account.
PostHogProduct analytics: which screens and features get used, so we know what to fix and build. The screens you open and a few actions: switching between map, list and time views, saving a studio or class, logging a class and whether it went through, opening a studio's or class's booking link, and creating an account. Saves, logs and link opens include which studio or class. Events are tied to your account ID when you're signed in, or to a random ID stored on your device when you're not. PostHog also receives your device type, operating system, app version and, as with any request, your IP address. We've turned off its IP-to-location lookup. Never your email, phone number, messages or location.
VercelHosts this website and the web app.Standard web server logs (IP address, pages requested).
Map tile providers (CARTO on the web, with Esri as an automatic standby if CARTO is unavailable; Apple or Google Maps in the app)Draw the map itself.Your IP address and the map area you're viewing — inherent to loading any map.

We do not sell personal information, we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, and there are no advertising or data-broker SDKs in the app.

Deleting your data

Delete your account from the Profile tab. Deletion removes your account and everything attached to it — profile, saved items, class log, reviews and questionnaire answers, tips, friendships, posts, the people you blocked, the reports you made, and every file you uploaded (profile photos, claim evidence, post media, and photos or videos added to class and studio pages). This is a hard delete in our systems, not a deactivation. To leave the waitlist, reply STOP to any text or reply to any email. Deleting your account also deletes your analytics in PostHog: the profile tied to your account ID and every event recorded under it. PostHog removes the profile right away and the events in its next weekend cleanup, so within about a week. For anything else: jasmin@choreosophy.com.

Retention

Account data is kept while your account exists and removed when you delete it. Waitlist entries are kept until launch notifications go out or you opt out, whichever comes first. Content removed by moderation is deleted, not archived. Standard server logs rotate on our hosts' default schedules (weeks, not years).

Your rights

Wherever you live, you can ask us what we hold about you, ask for a copy, correct it, or delete it — email jasmin@choreosophy.com and we'll respond within 30 days.

California residents

Under the CCPA/CPRA you have the right to know, correct, delete, and to not be discriminated against for exercising those rights. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined in the CPRA, so there is nothing to opt out of.

If you're in the EU/EEA or UK

We process your data to provide the service you signed up for (contract), to keep it safe and improve it (legitimate interests), and where you've consented (e.g. waitlist texts). GDPR rights — access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, objection — all apply; use the email above. You may also complain to your local supervisory authority.

Age

Choreosophy is for adults only. Every account requires a date of birth showing age 18+, checked before signup completes and enforced by the database itself. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18 — if you believe we have, email us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

When the app starts collecting something new, this page changes in the same release — not after. Material changes will be called out here with the date they took effect.

October 22, 2026. Deleting your account now deletes your PostHog analytics too, automatically. Before this, analytics events stayed in PostHog after deletion unless you emailed us to remove them.

October 22, 2026. Added blocking, reporting and moderation. You can now report any post, comment, event, pop-up listing or profile, and block other members; the people you block and the reports you make are listed above, are visible only to you and our admins, and are deleted with your account. Text you post is now checked for offensive language when you save it; text that's refused is never stored. Community events now follow the same phone-number rule as the rest of the community.

October 22, 2026. When you post a training session or a class check-in, you now choose who can see it: only you, your friends, or everyone. A class you check in to as "Only me" is also hidden from your friends' view of your class log. Posts made before this stay visible to everyone, as they were.

October 22, 2026. Reports are now emailed to our moderation inbox through Resend, so they reach a person quickly. The email contains what was reported and why, never who reported it. Anything reported by several different people is now hidden automatically until we review it, and reports can include an optional description.

October 22, 2026. Product analytics through PostHog are now switched on. The table above lists exactly which screens and actions are counted. Without an account they're tied to a random ID on your device, and with one, to your account ID. No location, contact details or message contents are sent.

October 22, 2026. The iOS and Android apps now get updates from Expo, a new service in the table above. When the app opens it checks with Expo for an update, which shares your IP address, platform and app version. Nothing about your account or activity is sent.

October 9, 2026. The web map's tiles now come from CARTO, with Esri as an automatic standby if CARTO is ever unavailable, so either one may serve you a map. Nothing new is collected: a tile provider sees your IP address and the map area you are viewing, exactly as before.

September 25, 2026. Logging a class (formerly "checking in") now offers an expanded, mostly optional questionnaire about the class and studio (skill and age ranges, warm-up, attire, parking, amenities, tips), and class and studio pages gained a community photo/video strip. Individual answers, tips and media are now shown to anyone using the app — always anonymously, never with your username — where reviews were previously shown only as aggregates. Everything is reportable in-app and deleted with your account.

September 25, 2026. Seeing other dancers now requires a confirmed phone number. Profiles, the community feed, people search, friends, badges and leaderboards were previously visible to any signed-in account; they are now hidden until a phone number is verified. This narrows who can see your profile, badges, Props and posts — it does not collect anything new. Published September 24, 2026.
